Hello!
After that we hung out, and had lunch, with Dillon from Lezyne. You should see their pumps: too pro for me, but probably not for you.
First race report of the year. Fantastic. Actually, the official race reports will all be The Touchstone Blog but I'll post my always witty thoughts here.
The course was two laps of 30-odd miles of rolling terrain with one climb that was about 1km long (actually, maybe not that long) and then a long descent and flat stretch to the finish line. Kristina and Maria both came to the race, so Touchstone and 3 riders. Kahala-LaGrange had four riders, Banning's had two, and there was a decent mix from SoCal and Central CA.
Nothing too exciting, several wet attacks, then I did one that eventually stuck (so of). It was more a case of people not being able to catch back up over the climb. 8 of us stayed away for the rest of the race. There was a crash when Jenna from Cal Poly got taken out at the turn around, but she emerged unscathed and we continued on our merry way. On the last time up the climb Kristina went early, Melinda from Kahala and Kirsten from Cynergy went with her and got a gap. On the descent and final stretch into the finish myself, Maria, Kristina were chasing down. Morgan from Kahala did a good job getting in our way. Melinda won, Kirsten got second. Morgan jumped for the sprint, I go on her wheel and came around her for third. Kristina and Maria came in 5th and 6th.
We got our shiny new kits from Voler and blinded the competition with our awesome white shorts. Here we are getting our swag for Touchstone's podium performance:
So Pro Whiteness (except Maria, who's super-svelte-climber's phys
After the race, we got to hang out with some of our fantastic sponsors. First we went over to the Fluid tent and I learned all about Fluid. Here's the video. Sorry it's sideways. I am not the cinematographer.
FLUID
Then the bad part. I had to drive home. In LA traffic. My legs were on fire. Yuck. I took a detour to have some coffee at a hipster spot in Venice. I was wearing a tuque so I fit in. Luckily.
Next week: Boulevard. There's a rumour of rain, so we'll see.
A Bientôt!
