Since Kern County, I've been getting in some fantastic training. I was going through a phase where I felt like crap all of the time, but over the past 2.5 weeks, my numbers have gone way up. Since the biggest goal of my season is Canadian Nats July 4-5, I'm pretty stoked to be peaking lately. I'm also (finally) dialed in my TT fit, mostly thanks to this: http://www.blackwellresearch.com/ism_seats.htm. Don't make fun of it -- it's brilliant. Of course my pedal efficiency on that bike is still awful. Yesterday at Damon's lab (he's moved btw -- check out http://www.aroadbike4u.com/) I had to struggle to keep it in the very low 60s. Oh well. The wattage is up, so that's good. In fact, during a sprint session last week I hit 1256!! Coach D quickly pointed out that being able to spike wattage is useless, but I feel studly nonetheless (I'll have to post a quad shot soon to give a visual for my studliness.)
Now to the point of the entry...
I'm heading up to Oregon tomorrow for the Elkhorn Classic Stage Race (www.elkhornclassicstagerace.com/). 4 races over 3 days (for some reason I had thought it was more than that -- oh well, nice surprise). This is the first event where almost all of the OA elite team will be together. I also get to hang out with Molly (www.mollycameron.com) -- supercross superstar -- who will graciously race road for us at this race. I'm going to fly into Portland and she and I are going to drive over to Baker City and find Starbucks every morning.
The race looks pretty good -- Stage 1: Road Race, Stage 2: TT, Stage 3: Crit (yuck), Stage 4 108 mile RR (yay!) and thanks to my experiences at Redlands and Gila I'm excited to try out my new recovery techniques. Here are some of the products I'll be using:
- Skins
- MSM Rub
- Glutamine
- L- Carnitine
- Sodium Phosphate
I'll update daily (assuming internet access) about how the races when. Of course, I still have to pack everything up (including my bike). Ugh.
